ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen has still not found a new head coach following Dennis Czayka’s dismissal. However, there is a top candidate.
Following the parting of ways with head coach Dennis Czayka and the subsequent 2-0 derby victory over Adler Frintrop, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen had to settle for a scoreless draw against 1. FC Monheim. In both games, U19 coach Björn Matzel was on the ETB sidelines.
Matzel will likely remain the U19 coach. He may be brought into the first team as an assistant. Currently, however, it looks as though the Essen-based Oberliga club will introduce a new head coach in the first week of November.
“We’ve spoken with two or three coaches and will be talking to additional candidates by the weekend. In any case, Björn Matzel will be in charge of the team on Sunday against Hilden. Björn is fully involved in our selection process. We’re communicating with him very openly and very clearly,” explained Karl Weiß, ETB president, to Forecasting on Wednesday (October 29).
RS knows that the ETB spoke with Christian Dorda on Tuesday evening. The conversation reportedly lasted over two hours and was said to have been very productive. In short: Dorda has been given time to consider the offer and is the top candidate for the head coach position at Uhlenkrug.
ETB SW Essen: Dorda is the top candidate; talks were also held with Westerhoff
“I won’t comment on any names. As I said, we’re currently in talks with several candidates,” emphasizes Weiß. Among them is Sebastian Westerhoff.
The 39-year-old had been coaching the Westphalian Oberliga club TuS Ennepetal since January 1, 2023, and was relieved of his duties in September 2025. Westerhoff also has a history with ETB. As a forward, he once scored 36 goals in 101 games for the “Schwatten.” Now he could return to the Uhlenkrug as a coach.
But at the moment, everything points to Dorda. All he has to do is give ETB his “yes.” For the 36-year-old former pro, this would be his second head coaching position, following his stint at Germania Ratingen 04/19—from July 1, 2024, to October 30, 2024. Previously, the former pro was an assistant coach at SSVg Velbert.
The former left back, who played in Germany for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Greuther Fürth, Hansa Rostock, and KFC Uerdingen, retired in 2022. During his career, he played seven Bundesliga matches for Borussia Mönchengladbach and 142 games in the 3. Liga, scoring four goals and recording eleven assists. Dorda also played in the Netherlands and Belgium.
