SuS Haarzopf is heading into the winter break in a solid 5th place in the Lower Rhine District League Group 6. Coach Matthias Walter is pleased with this result.
Fifth place at the halfway point of the season. Those in charge at Föhrenweg can be pleased with that. As early as December 30, 2025, coach Matthias Walter will call the SuS Haarzopf team together for winter training.
Before the Bezirksliga Group 6 in the Lower Rhine region gets back to business, Haarzopf will play four friendly matches. On January 6 (7:30 p.m., away) at SC Werden-Heidhausen, on January 11 (2:00 p.m., home) against SV Höntrop, on January 18 (3:15 p.m., away) against Sportfreunde Niederwenigern, and on January 25 (12:00 p.m.) against SC Frintrop.
Matthias Walter, how would you rate your team’s first half of the season?
Overall, we’re satisfied with the first half of the season. The team has developed very well in a short time, though we know there’s still a lot of potential within us.
What has been the highlight for you so far?
I’d rather not single out a single highlight. For me, the biggest highlights are the moments when the guys put what they’ve learned in training into practice during a game and are successful as a result. If I had to pick one thing, the Christmas party in Haarzopf at the “AAA” clubhouse was, of course, a very special highlight.
And what was the biggest negative experience?
Especially at the start of the season, we repeatedly had to deal with injuries and at times were left with a very small squad. That was certainly a major challenge.
Will there be changes to the squad during the winter break?
With Marvin Pape, we’ve added an external player who will help us not only this season but also in the long term. In addition, three players returning from long-term injuries will be carefully reintegrated into the team, and their quality will give us additional options.
What is your goal for the remainder of the season?
We want to approach our matches with even more courage and collect as many points as possible.
