Seguin and Drexler back in team training

Regular goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann, meanwhile, only trained individually. The 34-year-old is running out of time just a few days before the start against HSV.

At Schalke 04’s first session after returning from the training camp in Mittersill, Austria, all eyes were not only on new signing Lino Tempelmann from Nuremberg, but also on Blendi Idrizi. In front of more than 300 S04 fans, the midfielder presented himself in a new look: The 25-year-old, who was most recently on loan at Jahn Regensburg, wore a completely bald head in bright sunshine.

Coach Thomas Reis directed 20 field players and three goalkeepers on the training pitch next to the Parkstadion. It seems increasingly unlikely that regular keeper Ralf Fährmann will be fit in time for the start of the second division against Hamburger SV. Fährmann was still training individually after his calf injury and tooth operation, while Justin Heekeren, newcomer Marius Müller and veteran Michael Langer took turns in the training game.

Schalke: Cedric Brunner missing due to illness

In addition to right-back Cedric Brunner, who was absent due to illness, Schalke’s own youngster Mehmet-Can Aydin was limited to individual training work. Aydin had already missed the test against Polish first division team Gornik Zabrze (5:0) in Austria because, according to coach Reis, he had “taken a knock”.

Schalke’s new signing Paul Seguin was only able to do some light running training in Mittersill because his calf was giving him problems. On Tuesday, the ex-Berlin player was able to take part in all team exercises. Dominick Drexler, who had been left out against Zabrze as a precaution, was also fully available again. After the usual warm-up programme, Schalke coach Thomas Reis had the players play in two groups on a small field on four small goals, followed by a training game on large goals.

Bryan Lasme, who was brought from Bielefeld, scored a goal and narrowly missed a second goal after a leg kick. Just before the end of training, there was a bit of a scare: Lasme grabbed his hip for a few seconds after a duel with Baldy Idrizi, but was then able to continue despite his pain-distorted face.
