The midfielder missed training on Friday at short notice. Nevertheless, he could be in Borussia Dortmund’s squad against Bochum.
On Friday, Borussia Dortmund’s training observers missed a familiar face. Marco Reus was not with the team. The 34-year-old withdrew at short notice due to illness. However, it is not out of the question that he will play in the derby against VfL Bochum next Sunday (17:30/DAZN).
There are still a few question marks over the BVB line-up ahead of the clash with Bochum. Gregor Kobel and Julian Brandt were unable to train during the week. Niklas Süle, on the other hand, was able to return to training. Mats Hummels and Emre Can were also able to train again. Young talent Yousouffa Moukoko and Donyell Malen, who received special praise from coach Terzic at the press conference, are also options for the upcoming clash against Bochum.
However, Terzic remained tight-lipped about a possible winter transfer for Giovanni Reyna, who is said to have already been offered to several clubs. Terzic had held talks with the midfielder and he had “not expressed any desire to change clubs.” If Reus is not fit in time for the game against Bochum, the 21-year-old American could even move into the starting eleven. Recently, Reyna has had to switch to the wings when he has been used – a position in which he does not feel as comfortable as in the center.
BVB can step up their game in the battle for the Champions League
Against VfL Bochum, Borussia Dortmund will be looking to confirm the upward trend seen in their victories at SV Darmstadt 98 (3:0) and 1. FC Köln (4:0). Because fourth-placed RB Leipzig lost twice recently, Borussia Dortmund is now back in the race for the Champions League places after trailing the Saxons by six points. Leipzig will play at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday at 3.30 p.m., who will be looking for a reaction to their surprising 1-0 defeat in Bochum.
