SV Straelen has long been planning the upcoming Oberliga season in the background. Whether the captain will stay on board is still very much in question.
SV Straelen’s coach for the new season has been decided: Sunay Acar officially became the new coach at Römerstraße last week.
Whether he can continue to plan with captain Ole Päffgen for the 2023/2024 series is still highly questionable. The right-back has blossomed recently and this has not gone unnoticed by the competition.
The 25-year-old has scored five goals in the last six matches – one goal, four assists. For weeks, Päffgen has been one of the most eye-catching players in the team of the designated regional league relegation team from Straelen.
According to RevierSport information, the Oberliga clubs SSVg Velbert, on their way to the 4th league, and KFC Uerdingen, who want to attack again in the coming season with soon-to-be coach and sporting director Marcus John – the only thing missing in this personnel matter is his signature.
That leaves the agony of choice for Päffgen, who has played 123 games for SV Straelen since 2019: with Velbert in the Regionalliga, with Uerdingen fighting for promotion in the Oberliga or extending his contract at Römerstraße and “cozying up” with Straelen in the Oberliga.
For as Straelen’s boss Hermann Tecklenburg recently told RevierSport: “It is 99 per cent certain that we will be relegated. Under my chairmanship, SV Straelen will no longer be in the regional league. That’s it for the summer. We’ll then make ourselves comfortable in the Oberliga Niederrhein as a well-run club. “
