Bundesliga football club VfL Bochum has extended the contract of a key player for the long term.
Gerrit Holtmann was one of VfL Bochum’s absolute top performers in the past Bundesliga season. In 29 games, the quick-as-an-arrow winger scored five goals and set up another six. These performances have naturally aroused desires. But according to information from RevierSport, Holtmann has prematurely extended his contract by two more years until 2025 and will continue to play at Castroper Straße in the coming years.
Together with his wife Lisa, whom the 27-year-old married in June, Holtmann visited the office on Thursday to sign the contract. This is the next coup for outgoing sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz after the contract extensions of regular keeper Manuel Riemann and captain Anthony Losilla. With Maxim Leitsch, Sebastian Polter, Armel Bella Kotchap and Milos Pantovic leaving the club, the loyalty shown by the three key players Holtmann, Riemann and Losilla is particularly important in these times.
Goal of the year against Mainz 05
2020 Gerrit Holtmann moved from FSV Mainz 05 to the Ruhrpott. In his first season, VfL were promoted to the Bundesliga and the following year managed to stay in the league – also thanks to Holtmann. With his goal of the year against his former club Mainz and two remarkable goals in the sensational victories against Bayern Munich (4:2) and Borussia Dortmund (4:3), the winger played his way into the hearts of the Bochum fans.
On 11 June 2022, the left winger then made his debut for the Philippines national team and promptly scored the winning goal against Mongolia. “Rouven Schröder, Mainz’s sports director at the time, told me in a telephone conversation after his transfer that Gerrit Holtmann could really strengthen Bochum and help them further,” Radio Bochum reporter Günther Pohl told RevierSport. He was to be proved right. fn with gp
