The Oberliga Westfalen has started the new season. The race for the top spot remains tight in the new year.
The Oberliga Westfalen returned from the winter break this Sunday with a full lineup. At least that was the plan. However, the league leaders from Lotte had to watch the competition score points. The game at Westfalia Rhynern fell victim to the weather conditions.
On the other hand, there was no shortage of goals on the other pitches. The start to the Oberliga year was particularly bitter for Türkspor Dortmund. Coach Sebastian Tyrala’s team led 3-2 against Sportfreunde Siegen until shortly before the end. The second half went back and forth. A directly converted free kick from Mats Scheld left the Dortmund team with just one point.
Eintracht Rheine caused an upset. The team with the worst defense in the Oberliga Westfalen not only kept a clean sheet against TSG Sprockhövel, but also scored three goals themselves. This gave Rheine some breathing space in the relegation battle.
There, SG Wattenscheid 09 sent a sign of life. At SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl, Engin Yavuzaslan’s team fought hard throughout the entire game and managed to equalize from 0-2 down thanks to goals from Umut Yildiz (48th) and Felix Casalino (62nd). The highlight then came almost at the end. Jamal El Mansoury scored for SGW to make it 3:2. Nevertheless, Wattenscheid remain at the bottom of the table.
FC Brünninghausen are just one point ahead. The promoted team were crushed 0:4 by SpVgg Vreden. By half-time, the Dortmund team were already almost irreversibly 0:3 behind.
There were no goals in the game between 1. FC Gievenbeck and SpVgg Erkenschwick. It was not due to a lack of offensive action. Erkenschwick was close again and again, especially in the second half, but could not convert. The only highlights of the game were two dismissals (each yellow-red) within a minute. Both Schwicker Finn Wortmann (38th) and Gievenbeck’s Niklas Frese (39th) had to go down before the break.
SV Schermbeck missed out on drawing level with the top duo of ASC 09 Dortmund and Sportfreunde Lotte after a 1-1 draw against TuS Ennepetal. SVS is two points behind and has played one game more.
On Saturday, ASC 09 Dortmund won the city derby against TuS Bövinghausen 2-0. This means that ASC has the same number of points and matches as Lotte. Find out everything about the derby here.
