1. FC Magdeburg has signed Daniel Heber from Rot-Weiss Essen. Those responsible are happy about the transfer.
With 33 goals conceded after 17 games, 1. FC Magdeburg has the worst defence in the 2nd Bundesliga. Daniel Heber is to stabilise the holey FCM defence in future. RevierSport reported exclusively.
The former captain of third-division club Rot-Weiss Essen is moving to Saxony-Anhalt with immediate effect and, according to RevierSport information, will receive a contract until 30 June 2026, including an option to extend for another year. Meanwhile, a six-figure sum, which is less than 500,000 euros, will flow into the Essen account from Magdeburg.
“We were already interested in Daniel Heber in the summer of 2021 and have continued to follow his career. Due to our long-lasting injury plight, we had to act and with Daniel we signed a player who can help us in several positions in the defensive area,” explains Otmar Schork, FCM’s managing director of sport.
Christian Titz, head coach of 1. FC Magdeburg, is particularly pleased about the signing of the former Essen player. This is because Titz worked with Heber at Hafenstraße in the 2019/2020 season. Now the two will meet again in Magdeburg. Heber even still has a friendship with Amara Condé, Magdeburg’s captain, from their times together in Essen.
“I know Daniel from our time together at Rot-Weiss Essen. He is a fast player, strong in two fights, who can be used variably in several positions in the back line,” says Titz about his former favourite pupil at Rot-Weiss.
It remains to be seen whether Heber, who was one of the top defenders in the Regionalliga but showed weaknesses in the 3rd League, has the quality for the 2nd Bundesliga. After all, the most vulnerable defence in the 2nd Bundesliga needs to be stabilised.
