What will happen with the additional revenue and where does something still need to happen?

RWE have won the Lower Rhine Cup. We talk about the game, transfers and plans for next season in the “Vonne Hafenstraße” talk.

Rot-Weiss Essen ended the season successfully by winning the Lower Rhine Cup. After a tough first half, the team from Essen deservedly won 3:0 (0:0) against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

In addition to the sporting side of things, the fans also took center stage yesterday – but not with their usual unconditional support. The active fan scene largely refused to support the team. A conflict is brewing between the Ultras and the club management.

By winning the Lower Rhine Cup, RWE has not only secured its participation in the DFB Cup, but can also plan for additional income of around 400,000 euros for the new season. This gives the Essen club managers more leeway for future transfers.

Marcus Steegmann and Christian Flüthmann still have a lot of work to do when it comes to squad planning: the club has informed five players that they will no longer be planning with them, and key players such as Harenbrock and Götze also need to be replaced. On the other hand, there are only three new signings: Tom Moustier, Ramien Safi and Jimmy Kaparos.

The news that Sascha Voelcke would also be leaving the club came as something of a surprise to many. The winger got a lot of playing time in the final third of the season and repaid the coach’s trust with strong performances. He would have had prospects of extending his expiring contract – but he informed the club that he wanted to seek a new challenge

Rot-Weiss Essen also need to make further additions at striker, with only Moussa Doumbouya and Leonardo Vonic still under contract following the departure of Ron Berlinski. A real goalscorer would be the ideal solution – but such a player is hard to come by

The last game of the season also marked the end of Marcus Uhlig’s tenure at Rot-Weiss Essen. Before the game, the CEO was bid farewell by the club with warm words and a lifetime season ticket. On Tuesday, June 4, Markus Uhlig will once again be a guest on the RWE talk show “Vonne Hafenstraße.”

What role could the new additions to RWE play in the new season? How can the club compensate for the departures and what role will the additional income from the cup play in squad planning? RWE reporter Ralf Wilhelm, volunteer Oliver Wichmann and presenter Kira Alex talk about this, the match against Oberhausen and RWE’s summer schedule in the new episode of “Vonne Hafenstraße – der RWE Talk.”
