A striker could soon find his way into the 2nd Bundesliga at Bundesliga football club VfL Bochum.

Second-division club Fortuna Düsseldorf is still looking for a new striker. And that should be Simon Zoller from VfL Bochum.

This was first reported by the “Bild” newspaper, RS can confirm that Fortuna would like to sign the veteran. According to RS, VfL Bochum has not yet received an official enquiry.

Zoller is currently only a substitute for Bochum and was not even in coach Thomas Letsch’s squad against BVB on Saturday. His contract in Bochum expires on 30 June 2024, an extension seems out of the question.

However, the former Cologne player’s salary is likely to be a problem, as there is no way Fortuna can afford the full amount. Therefore, this could be the sticking point where all three parties have to find a solution. Presumably, Zoller would have to give up some money in the case of a transfer, and VfL would have to pay a small settlement in order to seal the deal.

But nothing is fixed yet. RS asked Zoller’s advisor Markus Peter about the state of affairs. “I cannot confirm any agreement between Simon Zoller and Fortuna Düsseldorf at this time. There is nothing more to say at the moment.” According to RS information, talks between Zoller’s advisor and VfL in the person of Marc Lettau will not take place until the beginning of the week.

In any case, Zoller no longer has a sporting future in Bochum. Especially not when Philipp Förster and Moritz-Broni Kwarteng (who came from 1. FC Magdeburg in the summer) are back after their injuries.

The transfer would have to be completed by 1 September, because that is when the transfer window closes for this summer. Zoller, who has been playing for VfL for four and a half years and has scored 33 goals and set up 21 others in 109 competitive games, will certainly push for a transfer due to the current situation at the Castroper.
