Currently, an injury is slowing him down, but a former talent of MSV Duisburg has taken a few big steps forward abroad. He is currently playing in Switzerland.
Sinan Karweina was a key member of the FC Luzern squad. He has already appeared seven times for the Swiss first division club this season, starting seven of them. The 1.73-meter center forward repaid the league with one goal and two assists.
Things were going well for the former MSV Duisburg striker. But since the end of September, Karweina has been forced to watch from the sidelines. A muscle injury is slowing the Gummersbach native down – probably until the end of the year.
It’s particularly disappointing for everyone involved as not only was the 25-year-old in a good mood, but so was FC Lucerne. Max Meyer’s former club is currently in third place in the Super League, just behind league leaders FC Zurich. Lucerne is three points behind.
Last match day, they lost 2-1 to Young Boys Bern, who have ex-Bochum player Silvere Ganvoula in their ranks. Bern have not yet found their feet and the three points have at least lifted them out of the bottom three.
Even though Karweina himself has to watch, the market value curve continues to point steeply upwards. His last market value from his time at MSV Duisburg is dated June 14, 2021 and was 175,000 euros at “transfermarkt.de”. Now Karweina is listed there at 1.7 million euros – which is almost a tenfold increase.
Karweina was never able to really establish himself at MSV Duisburg
Karweina played for TuS Reichshof, FV Wiehl and finally four years for 1. FC Köln as a youth. At the age of 19, the center forward transferred from Cologne to Sportfreunde Lotte, where he gained his first experience in professional football.
After just one season, MSV Duisburg took notice of the fast attacker and offered Karweina a two-year contract. He played 36 competitive games (7 goals, 8 assists) for MSV in the two years, but the 1.73-meter man was unable to really establish himself during this time.
Karweina, who missed a total of twelve games due to injury, repeatedly oscillated between the starting eleven, the bench and a place in the stands. Of the 31 third-division matches he played for Duisburg, the Gummersbach native was only in the starting eleven ten times. In 2021, he joined Türkgücü Munich, but left the club again in March after the club filed for bankruptcy and suspended operations.
Austria Klagenfurt then signed the tricky striker in July 2022 – a good decision. In 53 games, he scored 16 goals and provided twelve assists. In Klagenfurt, Karweina’s market value quickly exceeded the one million mark for the first time. In the summer of 2024, he then joined FC Lucerne, where he has become even more valuable.
