BVB II won its final preseason friendly, while a left-back has left for Spain.
The U23 team of third-division relegated Borussia Dortmund will kick off the new Regionalliga West season on Sunday (July 27, 2 p.m.) against SC Paderborn’s U23 team.
Not only does BVB II have a new coach in Mike Tullberg, but the squad has also undergone a major overhaul. Eleven new players have been signed so far, and there have been nine departures. Since the weekend, there are now ten departures, as left-back Guillermo Bueno is leaving Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team to join Spanish second division side Real Valladolid. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at SV Darmstadt 98.
In 2021, the Spaniard moved from Deportivo La Coruna to BVB’s second team and went on to play 65 times in the 3rd division (one goal, three assists).
Without Bueno, BVB II won their last pre-season friendly against Austria Salzburg 2-1. Tullberg summed up on the club’s website: “I’m glad we came away with the win again. But there were also elements that I’m not entirely happy with. We had the chance to decide the game in the first half again. But we didn’t manage to get any clear shots on goal in three or four situations. We also conceded the goal after a corner. The boys are naturally a bit tired in their heads and legs after the many sessions over the last few days – that’s normal. We deserved to win in the end and could have scored another goal.”
