SV Wehen Wiesbaden is going into Saturday’s game (September 13, 2 p.m.) at MSV Duisburg with an aggressive approach. That’s what the Hessen coach said in the run-up to the game.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden will be playing away at league leaders MSV Duisburg in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena on Saturday (September 13, 2 p.m.) on the fifth match day of the 3rd league.
With seven points from their first four league games, head coach Nils Döring’s team has made a solid start to the season. In addition, they narrowly missed out on a sensation against record champions Bayern Munich in the first round of the DFB Cup, losing 3-2. Now they face the newly promoted team from Duisburg, who have made a furious start and won all their games so far. In addition to center back Florian Hübner, who has been partially reintegrated into team training but is not yet an option for Saturday, Döring will also have to do without Robin Kalem (groin problems), Orestis Kiomourtzoglou (muscle fiber tear with tendon involvement), and Ben Nink (muscle fiber tear in the thigh).
Despite some injury concerns, Döring is “very satisfied” overall with the squad at his disposal. “We have used 21 field players in the five competitive games so far. That speaks for the quality of the squad on the one hand and for a high level of competition on the other. The guys make it extremely difficult for us in the coaching team to make personnel decisions, and we’re not afraid to throw anyone into a game,” said the SVWW coach in his matchday interview.
Döring also had high praise for MSV Duisburg. “The promotion has created an incredible euphoria in Duisburg, which they have successfully carried into the season. I don’t think any promoted team has ever won their first four games in the 3rd division. They have a strong mentality, play with high intensity, and win a lot of tackles,” praised the 45-year-old. The fact that Duisburg came back from a 0-2 deficit to win in Verl and scored the winning goal in their home game against Ulm despite being a man down speaks to their good morale and high quality. Nevertheless, they want to focus on their own strengths on Saturday. “We will definitely not deviate from our footballing philosophy, because that is what makes us strong. Of course, there will always be tactical and personnel adjustments to the opponent. But our basic offensive idea remains the same. We want to play actively and aggressively up front – we have shown that in both away and home games,” explained Döring.
