Coach effect fizzles out – Lewejohann: “We will address issues head-on”

1. FC Bocholt is in the midst of a serious results crisis. Even against a weak Düsseldorf second string, they suffered a 0-3 home defeat.

Jens Langeneke, coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf II, was relieved at the press conference after the 3-0 victory over 1. FC Bocholt. Of course, his young Fortuna players had lost four games in a row. Against 1. FC Bocholt, who are also in crisis, the state capital’s team were finally able to celebrate a victory again. “Huge compliments to my team,” said Langeneke after the game, referring to his team, who took the lead after 10 minutes with a header from a corner. Mechak Quiala Tito was on hand. René Lewejohann, coach of 1. FC Bocholt, was frustrated with the set-piece goal: “Set pieces were of course a topic of discussion. I thought we had put that behind us, that we were more stable in that area. That was not the case.”

After that, the game was wide open for a long time, with Bocholt trying hard but ultimately having to open up to get something out of the game. This created space that Fortuna’s top scorer, Deniz Bindemann, was able to exploit to score his ninth and tenth goals of the season (78th, 88th).

When it comes to points, your mind is inhibited. You really want to do something, but you’re blocked to a certain extent.

“When it comes to points, your mind gets in the way. You really want to do something, but you’re a bit blocked, which is no excuse,” said Lewejohann after the game, searching for an explanation. One thing is certain: Bocholt is in crisis. Their last league win dates back to November 2 last year. Since then, the team has gone six games without a win, losing five of them.

Even Christopher Schorch’s move to the second string did not bring the desired success. New coach Lewejohann was also unable to turn things around in his first two league games. He doesn’t want to paint a bleak picture, but he doesn’t want to sugarcoat anything either.

“The bottom line is that this is part of our journey this season,” explained the 41-year-old. A season that already seems to be a mess, as many experts expected Bocholt to be a promotion candidate. Lewejohann’s approach: “We have to accept the situation. Of course, we will address things bluntly in the locker room, but with a certain amount of respect. The important thing is to strengthen the boys.”
