SV Wehen Wiesbaden is knocking on the door of the promotion spots again after another three points against 1. FC Schweinfurt. Next weekend, SVWW will host MSV Duisburg.
Things are simply going well for Daniel Scherning and SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Since the 42-year-old took over as head coach in Hesse last November, the team has recorded six wins, one draw, and only two defeats.
The in-form Wiesbaden team also picked up three points against bottom-of-the-table 1. FC Schweinfurt on Saturday. The score remained 0-0 for a long time, but Moritz Flotho scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute. The spell was broken. Shortly afterwards, Ibrahim Ati Allah added a second to make it 2-0. It was the 18-year-old’s first professional goal of his career. SVWW coach Scherning told “Magenta Sport” after the final whistle: “I told the boys that it wouldn’t be an easy game and that we would need to be patient until the 85th minute or even into extra time to score the goal. The substitutions were once again very good; they had a huge impact on the game. It wasn’t an easy game, but we didn’t win undeservedly. In my opinion, we should have been awarded one or two penalties. Then you have that opening goal. Overall, we were still too sluggish and sedate at times, but we always knew that we could score at any time.”
Quietly and secretly, Wiesbaden, who were still in 15th place after the 15th matchday, have worked their way up the table. Now, in seventh place and only three points behind the relegation spot, they are suddenly in the promotion race.
The Hessians have not lost four games in a row and have only lost once in their last eight league games. Next Saturday (February 14, 2 p.m.), SVWW faces its next test when MSV Duisburg, one of the top teams, visits the Brita Arena.
Scherning: “Next week against Duisburg will be a different game here at home because the opponent approaches such a thing differently than Schweinfurt. We decided the game of patience that awaited us in the end. I am very proud.”
