The national team player, who was penalized for illegal possession of a weapon, regrets his mistake. He will now get involved in a social project.

Borussia Dortmund and German national team soccer player Karim Adeyemi has apologized to his club and the national team after receiving a penalty order for illegal possession of a weapon. He will also face disciplinary action from BVB and the DFB.

“It’s not easy for me to talk about this. In early 2024, out of recklessness and without really thinking about what I was doing, I ordered a so-called ‘mystery box’ online. It contained items that are prohibited under gun laws. Many months later, the package was delivered and ended up unopened in the hands of the police,” Adeyemi said on Instagram.

The penalty order, setting a fine of 60 daily rates, had already become final on October 30, according to Chief Public Prosecutor Michael Burggräf.

“Nevertheless, it was a huge mistake. One that I’m very sorry for, that has cost me a lot, and that I deeply regret. I know that I’m in the public eye and serve as a role model. I didn’t live up to that role. That’s exactly why it hurts me all the more that I acted so recklessly,” said the BVB player.

In consultation with his club and the DFB, he must now commit to a social project in Dortmund’s Nordstadt district and will soon be participating in joint training sessions with children. BVB Managing Director Lars Ricken and DFB Sports Director Rudi Völler have agreed on this.
