No one will ever have suffered such a first defeat in the club’s history. Westfalia Dortmund’s coach draws a comparison with Schalke’s four-minute championship.
You can be sure. Never before has a club lost its first compulsory championship match after almost two years in such a strange way. And it probably won’t happen again any time soon.
The Westfalia Dortmund club has been around since 2022. Since then, they have been unstoppable in the district leagues. They went into the Kreisliga B without losing a point. And there too: Only victories, the opponents were mostly without a chance.
On Sunday (April 21), the second promotion was to be secured. Westfalia Dortmund were once again top of the Kreisliga B1 Dortmund without losing a single point.
Everything was in place. After a number of opponents had failed to show up, RW Barop II arrived and lost 4-0. The party could begin – and it did.
“We celebrated in full,” explained Westfalia Dortmund coach Maurice Temme. Until the news came at seven o’clock on Monday, April 22, 2024, that the club had rejoiced too soon.
The Dortmund team had to digest the news that the game had been scored 2-0 in favor of Barop. This was because a player who had played for Westfalia Dortmund’s second team in their 8-3 defeat of TuS Rahm II in the Kreisliga C at 1 p.m. also played in the first team’s match, which kicked off at 3 p.m..
However, as he had picked up his fifth yellow card shortly beforehand, he was ineligible to play for the first team. Temme explains: “Nobody had that on their radar. Normally there’s a lock in front of a suspended player in the system, but that wasn’t the case here because the game was going on at almost the same time as ours. That’s why the game was scored against and despite the 4:0 win. Unfortunately, that was an organizational error. “
Schalke were the four-minute champions, we were the two-hour champions
Maurice Temme
The first party followed, and the second celebration will probably take place in a week’s time when Westfalia Dortmund play fourth-placed SV Westrich II (April 28, 12:45 p.m.).
Temme also drew a comparison with FC Schalke, who celebrated too early in 2001: “Schalke were the four-minute champions, we were the two-hour champions. But we have a second chance to make it clear.”
And if promotion to the Kreisliga A is then perfect, there will also be a few more additions after top-class players have already been signed. Temme: “There will certainly be a few more newcomers, but first we’ll clinch the championship. “
