SSV Ulm has signed Mirnes Pepic. The former Duisburg player was most recently a free agent and already knows his new coach, Pavel Dotchev, well from previous clubs.
SSV Ulm is having a disastrous season and, sitting in 18th place, is deep in the relegation battle in the 3rd Division. Now, the team relegated from the second division has bolstered its roster once again, signing the unsigned midfielder Mirnes Pepic until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old already trained with new coach Pavel Dotchev’s team on Tuesday. Pepic, who was born in Yugoslavia and holds both German and Montenegrin citizenship, brings with him experience from 186 3. Liga matches (eight goals, 14 assists) for Hansa Rostock, MSV Duisburg, Würzburger Kickers, SV Meppen, and most recently Erzgebirge Aue.
In addition, he has played 17 games in the 2. Bundesliga and even made two appearances in the Bundesliga during his career. Pepic has faced his new coach Dotchev several times throughout his career. The midfielder has played 89 games under the guidance of the third-division record-holding coach, including four matches in the Zebras’ jersey during the 2020/21 season.
“When the call came, I didn’t have to think twice. SSV Ulm 1846 is a great club, and I’m eager to help ensure we avoid relegation. The fact that I grew up in the region and know the coach very well makes my transition to Ulm much easier,” says Pepic, delighted with his new role at the “Spatzen.”
SSV Managing Director Stephan Schwarz says: “With Mirnes Pepic, we’re getting a very experienced player who can help us right away, even though he hasn’t played in recent months. Pavel and Mirnes know each other very well, so we’re glad we were able to make this happen on such short notice.”
Pepic could make his debut as early as this coming Saturday (November 29, 2 p.m.) in the home game against TSV 1860 Munich. Against the Lions, Ulm hopes to finally secure three points again after six consecutive losses.
