Silvere Ganvoula is happy about VfL Bochum’s relegation. But before that, the striker celebrated the biggest title of his career to date.
VfL Bochum’s spectacular comeback in the relegation play-off against Fortuna Düsseldorf did not escape Silvere Ganvoula’s notice. The striker, who was under contract at Castroper Straße for five years until last summer, watched the game on TV. In his Instagram story, he posted a video of the decisive penalty and the subsequent storm of jubilation from Bochum, adding applauding emojis to the post.
For the 27-year-old, VfL’s relegation was yet another reason to celebrate. Only at the weekend, he had celebrated the Swiss championship with BSC Young Boys Bern and was celebrated by thousands of fans with his team-mates on the bus tour through the capital.
A week earlier, Ganvoula and his team were no longer out of contention for first place in the table. On the final matchday, the Bernese team ensured a perfect finish with a 3-0 win against FC Winterthur – for Ganvoula from a personal point of view too. The Congolese international striker scored the final goal with a powerful shot from distance.
It was Ganvoula’s ninth goal of the season in the league and his twelfth in his 49th competitive match for the Bernese side. Ganvoula was a reserve player at VfL last season and failed to score in 16 short appearances
In Bern, on the other hand, things went uphill for Ganvoula. The team’s second-highest scorer is not an undisputed regular. But he gained experience in the Champions League, including against Manchester City, scored in the Europa League intermediate round against Sporting Lisbon and made headlines a few weeks ago with a remarkable overhead kick goal.
And now Ganvoula was also able to celebrate the championship – his second title at club level after the second division championship with VfL Bochum three years ago.
