Alemannia Aachen has made a change in the goalkeeper position. Jan Olschowsky’s loan has been terminated early, and in his place, the third-division club is bringing in a goalkeeper with plenty of experience.
Alemannia Aachen and goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky are parting ways. The third-division club announced this on Tuesday evening. The 24-year-old’s loan has been terminated early.
Olschowsky is returning to his parent club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he is expected to take on the role of backup goalkeeper following the departure of the team’s regular number two, Jonas Omlin, to Bayer Leverkusen.
The 24-year-old had rejoined the Black and Yellows this summer after previously playing for Alemannia on loan during the second half of the previous season. In total, the goalkeeper started 38 competitive matches for Alemannia, keeping eight clean sheets.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to Jan for his performances in the Alemannia jersey. We would have liked to have him with us until the end of the season, but we are prepared for his departure and will present a solution shortly,” explains Rachid Azzouzi, Alemannia’s sporting director.
Olschowsky also looks back on his time at Tivoli with positive words: “I had a wonderful time here in Aachen and will miss the team, the fans, and the Tivoli. I would especially like to thank my goalkeeper coach, Ivica Ljubicic. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Alemannia in the second half of the season and am convinced they will avoid relegation.”
Olschowsky’s successor found – Manuel Riemann joins the Kaiserstadt team
Immediately after the announcement that Olschowsky would be leaving the club, Alemannia promptly presented his replacement: Manuel Riemann has signed a contract with the Kaiserstadt club. The 37-year-old successfully passed his medical exam on Tuesday and will therefore play for Aachen in the second half of the season.
Riemann brings experience from a total of 464 games in German professional soccer. He played 117 matches in the 3rd Division, 249 in the 2nd Bundesliga, and 98 in the Bundesliga. The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in 145 matches. Riemann played the majority of his games for VfL Bochum, where he was under contract from 2015 to 2025 and celebrated, among other achievements, promotion to the Bundesliga in 2021. Last season, he was also under contract with SC Paderborn in the 2. Bundesliga. Riemann is particularly known for his strength in stopping opponent penalties: In the Bundesliga, he saved 11 out of 23 attempts.
“With Manuel Riemann, we are gaining a very experienced goalkeeper for our goalkeeping squad. He knows all three German professional leagues from personal experience and brings exactly the calmness and stability we need in the second half of the season. We are convinced that he will strengthen our team both on the field and with his personality,” says Rachid Azzouzi, Alemannia’s sporting director.
Riemann is also looking forward to his new role: “I’m really looking forward to playing for Alemannia starting immediately. The club stands for tradition and passion. I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and work with them toward a successful second half of the season.”
