Saturday in the Oberliga Niederrhein had plenty to offer—even at the bottom of the standings.

Adler Union Frintrop continues to battle against immediate relegation back to the Landesliga in the Oberliga Niederrhein. However, the bitter 1-2 loss to FC Monheim did nothing to help their cause.

Frintrop got off to a good start. Chances were few and far between in the early going—and yet Monheim struck after 20 minutes. Monheim’s attack outmaneuvered Frintrop’s defense with a clean one-two. Tom Hirsch’s finish was then a formality—1–0 (23’).

Frintrop continued to play solidly but went into halftime trailing 0–1. In the 53rd minute, Talha Demir made it 2–0 for Monheim with a long-range shot. Although Dominik Stukator pulled one back for the Eagles in the 69th minute, it wasn’t enough.

With their seventh consecutive game without a win, the Eagles remain third from the bottom and thus in acute danger of relegation.

SV Biemenhorst, currently at the bottom of the table, was also in action this Saturday. Against TSV Meerbusch, Joshua Müller put SVB ahead in the 49th minute. Micah Cain equalized for TSV Meerbusch in the 58th minute, but despite heavy pressure and a yellow-red card for Biemenhorst’s Noah Brucksteg in the 74th minute, TSV Meerbusch could not go beyond the 1-1 draw.

In the third matchup of the day, KFC Uerdingen defeated SpVg Schonnebeck in the top match. In the 66th minute, Ole Päffgen was in exactly the right spot in the penalty area and slotted the ball into the net. But just six minutes later, Schonnebeck came within a hair’s breadth of equalizing.

Substitute Lennon Jung found himself unmarked in the penalty area and had a clear shot on goal. Nedzhib Hadzha made a last-ditch sliding tackle to save the day, deflecting the ball over the crossbar.

But time was running out for Schonnebeck. Since the equalizer didn’t come even in the five minutes of stoppage time, KFC Uerdingen ultimately secured the hugely important 1-0 home victory. KFC thus remains in third place but can overtake Schonnebeck with a win in their rescheduled match against Ratingen. Conversely, the league leader can, for the moment, establish a clear lead with three points.
