Last week, the top teams in the Oberliga Niederrhein stumbled. On this matchday, all of the top 6 teams won—except for Baumberg. Here are the details.
In the Oberliga Niederrhein, league leader Ratingen 04/19 set the tone on Saturday. The final score was 4-2 after 90 minutes at Adler Union Frintrop, with Ratingen coming back from a 0-1 deficit.
The other two matches went to the bottom-dwellers. BW Dingden won the clash of the promoted teams at Holzheimer SG 1-0; earlier on Friday, the bottom-placed team from Biemenhorst showed signs of life with a 3-1 win over Baumberg.
On Sunday, the final six matches were on the schedule. SpVg Schonnebeck was under pressure at VfB Homberg. They wanted to bounce back from the 3-5 loss in the derby against ETB, and they needed the three points to keep pace with Ratingen.
And the Essen-based side delivered with a 2-1 win at VfB. Niko Bosnjak put Schonnebeck ahead in the first half with a penalty kick. Around that play, Homberg’s Leon Schübel was sent off with a red card. With the numerical advantage, Luca Pinke extended the lead after the break to what seemed like the decisive goal.
But Homberg fought back—also via a penalty kick. Andres Dimas converted it (78′). Shortly after, Schonnebeck’s Matthias Bloch was also sent off with a second yellow card. It wasn’t enough to equalize with the teams back to even strength, so Schonnebeck defended second place.
Third and fourth place were decided in a head-to-head battle between KFC Uerdingen and VfB 03 Hilden. VfB Hilden set the stage for victory early on at 1. FC Monheim—the final score was 4-0. Now VfB had to hope for a slip-up by Uerdingen against TSV Meerbusch. However, the Krefeld team took the lead through Mohamed Benktib before halftime. After the break, KFC conceded the equalizer to Florian Berisha.
But the visitors held the 1-1 score for only seven minutes; then it was Etienne-Noel Reck who put Uerdingen back in the lead. The score remained 2-1—leaving KFC in third place.
SC St. Tönis is the new fifth-place team after defeating SV Sonsbeck 2-1. ETB SW Essen also remains in the upper half of the table after drawing 1-1 with 1. FC Kleve. ETB had to play with a man down for over an hour after Armen Shavershyan was sent off with a red card (28th minute). When Dario Gerling then put Kleve ahead after the break, things looked bleak for Essen. But Nico Lucas equalized for ETB in the 76th minute, and the score remained 1-1.
In the final match of the day, VfL Jüchen-Garzweiler secured a convincing 5-1 victory at FC Büderich.
