Dennis Borkowski had just returned to action when the next piece of bad news arrived. He will once again be sidelined for MSV Duisburg.
It continues to be a season plagued by injuries for Dennis Borkowski of MSV Duisburg. The 24-year-old left winger had just recovered from tendonitis. He made his starting lineup comeback against SC Verl on Sunday, February 8.
He contributed a goal to the 4-2 victory but was only able to play the first half. Borkowski has injured himself again, without any contact from another player.
The attacking player experienced problems in his calf again—of all places—the very spot that had already sidelined him for months. A tendon strain caused him to miss 117 days and 18 games.
“This is absolutely tragic. You really feel for him,“ lamented captain Alexander Hahn during halftime on ”Magenta Sport“ against Verl. ”He has incredible quality, which he showed again. I don’t know what it is—I’m hoping for a few days’ rest. He works incredibly hard and always comes back with passion. He absolutely deserved that goal. I wish him only the best.”

Now it’s clear: Borkowski will be out for an extended period again for MSV Duisburg. He sustained a muscle injury involving the tendons during the home win over SC Verl. When the 24-year-old returns to training depends on his individual recovery process.
It was the only downside to an otherwise successful Sunday evening for MSV Duisburg. “The 3rd League is intense and characterized by a lot of physical battles. We handled them well,” Hahn praised after the match. With 43 points, the Zebras climbed back to second place and are two points ahead of SC Verl, which currently occupies the first non-promotion spot. They are just two points away from their stated season goal of avoiding relegation.
“With 45 points, you’re almost certain to stay in the 3rd Division. But we want to win every game and aren’t afraid of anything,” the veteran made clear. On Saturday in Wiesbaden, the defender will return to the center of the defense.
